Unfortunately, it can be difficult to ensure that in an emergency situation, the right people – like campus security personnel – are provided with the right information at the right time. This is because the flexibility and mobility of IP phones makes it difficult to accurately determine the precise location of the emergency, as users can move around on the campus network without notifying administrators. Also, educational organizations need the right tools to provide their security personnel with the information they need, whether that means directly delivering the 911 call to campus security, allowing campus security to listen in to the 911 call, and/or sending emails and screen pops to the security desk and patrolling personnel.

911 Enable will present a session at the upcoming ACUTA 41st Annual Conference and Exhibition to review the key E911 challenges educational organizations using IP telephony face, and the E911 solution components that can help them address these challenges in an elegant and cost-effective manner. The session will be delivered by 911 Enable Director Lev Deich, on April 30 at 3:45 in room 209. For more information on the show and how to register, visit http://www.acuta.org/wcm/ACUTA/Events___Education/Events/List/Core/Events/eventdetails.aspx?iKey=SC12&TemplateType=A

In the event of an emergency, health/insurance call centers and telematics providers need the ability to relay member calls and location information to the correct Public Safety Answering Point (PSAP). However, this can be challenging given that members may be mobile and/or geographically dispersed, and the call center/telematics agents are located in a centralized, static location.

911 Enable has launched the PSAP Link service to address the E911 challenges facing health/insurance call centers and telematics providers in a simple and cost-effective manner. It seamlessly integrates with the contact management console to allow agents to quickly and accurately transfer 911 calls to the correct PSAP. PSAP Link ensures that members in distress are immediately connected to the PSAP dispatcher on the priority emergency line, reducing response time delays so members have the greatest possible chance of a positive outcome. Ultimately, the improved emergency response times facilitated by PSAP Link can help to save lives and reduce claim costs by getting critical assistance to members, faster.

To help health/insurance call centers and telematics providers learn more about PSAP Link, 911 Enable has released several resources:

It works with Lync’s inherent E911 capabilities to meet the needs of organizations with certain specific E911 requirements. First, the EGW provides interoperability with the local exchange carrier (LEC) legacy E911 call routing solution. Second, for organizations with Lync deployed alongside other IP phone systems (e.g. Cisco, Avaya), the EGW acts as a Secondary Location Information Server to centralize E911 management in a multi-vendor environment.

To learn more about the certification of the EGW with Lync, you can view the press release here. For more information on how 911 Enable’s solutions provide support for Lync, a solution brief is available for download here. This can become even more challenging when campuses move to IP telephony to take advantage of advanced calling features and cost savings. Fortunately, reliable and cost-effective solutions are available to help higher education organizations address these challenges head-on, in a simple and elegant manner.

911 Enable has just released a Partner Case Study which details how we collaborated with IPC Technologies to deliver an E911 solution for the legacy and ShoreTel IP phone systems at The College of William and Mary. This Partner Case Study explains why IPC Technologies picked 911 Enable for this deployment, and how 911 Enable’s advanced solutions met or exceeded the requirements of The College of William and Mary. To learn more, you can download the Partner Case Study here.

911 Enable is pleased to announce the launch of an updated website! One of the new features of this refreshed website is a complete section dedicated to emergency calling support for International organisations.

The need to keep VoIP phone users safe affects organizations around the globe, so 911 Enable has responded by offering its Emergency Gateway (EGW) appliance worldwide. The EGW automatically discovers the precise locations of IP phones on the enterprise network, and includes a robust suite of security desk notification tools. When a user places an emergency call, the EGW can route the call to on-premises security personnel and send an alert that includes the caller’s exact location and callback number. Security personnel can then dispatch assistance to distressed callers in a timely manner. The caller-location information may also be used to select a routing trunk to deliver the call to public emergency services.

Organisations in the UK deploying the EGW can also use 911 Enable’s Emergency Routing Service (ERS) to deliver emergency calls and detailed caller-location information to the public emergency network’s Emergency Control Centre. This helps organisations ensure that their private telephone networks comply with regulatory guidelines, and that they fulfill their legal obligation to minimise health and safety risks.

To learn more about International emergency calling support, visit 911 Enable online here: http://www1.911enable.com/international

911 Enable will also host a webinar dedicated to this topic on March 15, 2012. You can register here.
